Arizona Picture Jasper is not a real jasper, but rather a rhyolite. It is marketed for its Landscape pictures and its wild lightening or Indian Painting patterns. The majority of this material is heavily silicated as well as fine-grained, but the grains are not as micro-crystalline as jasper. The source of this material is mined in the Globe Arizona area
With a little bit of imagination, you can see a lot in this specimen. It all depends on the orientation of the stone; lightening, Indian paintings and a distant horizon.
The stone is polished to a high luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.
Photographed under full spectrum LEDs.
