Cherry Creek Jasper, a very colorful stone with a wide variety of colors and patterns is mine from the Cherry Creek mine in China. The creek named Cherry Creek actually runs through the area near the mine and the area where this rock was discovered. Again, like some of the other lapidary stones, this one is not a true jasper as it is primarily composed of dolomite instead of Chalcedony. It is believed the stone was formed in an ancient ocean from the different layers of sediments.
Cherry Creek or Picasso Jasper Cabochon; a fancy hand cut and polished semi-precious cabochon made from the rare Cherry Creek Jasper. The stone is a one-of-a-kind medium height piece of art that looks like splashes of paint across the stone. The shades of yellow, orange, olive, brown and hints of white decorate the surface. The stone is cut in a skewed Navette or Marquise with both a lower and upper girdle to facilitate easy stone setting. This stone has been vacuum stabilized, shaped and polished to a high vitreous luster.
The cabochon is ideal for a pendant and/or statement piece setting.
