Fortified agates are characterized by a unique banding that resembles the fortifications for battle zones or the crooked moats around castles. The bands are actually microscopic layers of chalcedony crystals with varying mineral contaminates, which provide the source of the colors in the bands.
This stone has colors of chocolate, whites, creams, orange and layers of grey.
The stone’s provenance: Self collected near the town of Douglas, Arizona.
The stone is polished to a high vitreous luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.
