Lapis Lazuli is a deep royal blue metamorphic rock that is mined in northeast Afghanistan. This stone has become scarcer on the open market in the last three years. The three major minerals that make up Lapis Lazuli are lazurite, calcite and pyrite. The stone also contains lesser amounts of feldspar, mica or diopside
This specimen is a deep royal blue with some a ring of pyrite crystals encircling the crown. On the upper right there is a small surface fracture that does not go through the stone.
The stone is polished to a high luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.
