Lapis Lazuli is a deep royal blue metamorphic rock that is mined in northeast Afghanistan. This stone has become scarcer on the open market in the last three years. The three major minerals that make up Lapis Lazuli are lazurite, calcite and pyrite. The stone also contains lesser amounts of feldspar, mica or diopside.
This specimen is a deep royal blue with pyrite crystals surrounded by an unknown mineral visible in the center of the crown.
The stone is polished to a high luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.
