Lapis Lazuli is a deep royal blue metamorphic rock that is mined in northeast Afghanistan. This stone has become scarcer on the open market in the last three years. The three major minerals that make up Lapis Lazuli are lazurite, calcite and pyrite. The stone also contains lesser amounts of feldspar, mica or diopside.
This specimen is a deep blue with a white pattern across the center that resembles squares. The face of the stone has scattered pyrite crystals.
The stone is polished to a high luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.
