Lapis Lazuli is a deep royal blue metamorphic rock that is mined in northeast Afghanistan. This stone has become scarcer on the open market in the last three years. The three major minerals that make up Lapis Lazuli are lazurite, calcite and pyrite. The stone also contains lesser amounts of feldspar, mica or diopside.

This face of this stone is has a high concentration of calcite with a blue lazurite stripe in the center. Pyrite crystals are readily visible in the calcite and on the back.

The stone is polished to a high luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.

Photographed under full spectrum LEDs.
