Pinolite or Pinolith is a black and white with periodically a pale orange coloring. The stone is composed of dolomite, magnesite, which is heavily included with graphite. Sometimes the crystals within the pinolith are shaped like pine nuts, hence the name. This material was sourced from a mine in Canada.
This specimen displays the many shades of graphite across the face of the stone. It also displays the typical pine seed shapes of the magnesite outlined in graphite. This stone is stabilized.
The stone is polished to a high luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.
Photographed under full spectrum LEDs.
