Canadian Pinolite or Pinolith is a black and white with periodically a pale orange coloring. The stone is composed of dolomite matrix with inclusions of magnesite, which is heavily included with graphite. Sometimes the crystals within the pinolith are shaped like pine nuts, hence the name. This material was sourced from a mine in Canada.
This specimen shows some semblance of chatoyance across small sections of the magnesite as well as minute areas of the graphite evenly covered with a creamy yellow. The stone is cut in an Oval with both upper and lower girdles to facilitate stone setting.
This stone has been stabilized prior to cutting. This cabochon is polished to a high glassy luster.
The cabochon is ideal as a pendant and/or statement piece.
