Table Mesa Road is located just North of Phoenix, Arizona. The Table Mesa area is approximately nine miles long and is set aside primarily for off-roading and target practice. The location where the jasper was found is now off-limits to collectors due to an active mining claim, which now sits behind a chained cyclone fence.
This specimen exhibits the appearance of petrified wood, but it is not. The cabochon is a yellow ocher or burnt yellow with swirled strips of maroon jasper arranged such that it mimics the wood grain of petrified wood.
The stone is polished to a high luster both front and back. The back is flat ready for mounting.
Photographed under full spectrum LEDs.
